New Project, New Approach
Ray and Vince, aka RayVin, is starting a new project car. It's a 1952 MGTD which was started by Greg Mcmichael, who passed away in July 2019. Greg's brother Eric has hired RayVin to finish his brother's car. There's quite a bit of body work, esp paint, so Eric also hired Darrell Smith to do the paint. RayVin likes working with Darrell, that's worked great in the past. But we've not worked on other people's cars before, preferring to simply buy a car, fix it up, and then sell it. We are hopeful that this approach works well for all parties!
So today we picked up the car, or at least most of it, from an airplane hanger at Skylane airport where Greg had been working on it. Eric had already delivered some of the parts which had been at Greg's house. Here's pics of the parts picked up today.
First is the rolling chassis. Unfortunately, it did not roll. The rear brakes were locked up. But with enough manpower and a floor jack we were able to both load and unload this assembly. Then we later got the brakes unlocked - appears the shoes were stuck to the drums, smacking drum with sledge shook them loose.
Then more pics of piles of parts.
Darrell was also at the hanger picking up some things he had purchased from Eric, so we loaded the "tub" on it's roll around stand plus most of the sheet metal on Darrell's trailer so he can get started on those parts of the project.
Ray and I have all the parts at the shop in Boonville. Or at least, we think we have ALL the parts. Finding every part needed and then getting them in the right place will be a big challenge for us. Kind of like a giant puzzle.
We not only got the car to roll, but we also got the engine to turn over by hand plus were able to operate the clutch and confirm it's not frozen to the flywheel. So far it looks like Greg did good work on the parts he got done.
